ESL Assessment Coordinator - Midland, Harrisburg, or Philadelphia

Job Goal:

The ESL Assessment Coordinator is responsible for the identification, evaluation, documentation, and proper program placement for all current and newly enrolling students who do not identify their primary language as English. The ESL Assessment Coordinator is also responsible for scheduling and administration of the state mandated ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 annual assessment of all identified English Language Learners enrolled at PA Cyber.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate or school reading specialist certification required, Pennsylvania ESL Program Specialist endorsement preferred
  • Experience administering the WIDA series of language proficiency assessments preferred
  • Experience teaching English Learners preferred
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid state issued driver's license
  • Child Abuse Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clearance
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Daily monitoring of electronic reports from the Student Information System (SIS) for newly enrolling students whose primary language is not English
  • Collect and analyze ESL program documentation from previous schools, incoming student records and current student records
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all state testing requirements for English language learners
  • Communicate all pertinent information in relation to required testing, scheduling, and student exam scores to the ESL Program Coordinator and other appropriate stakeholders
  • Coordinate and execute yearly ACCESS for ELLs state mandated testing for all currently active English language learners within the state's testing window
  • Effectively communicate testing expectations to parents/guardians, students, and appropriate staff members in a timely manner
  • Travel frequently, including overnight travel, to various locations within Pennsylvania to complete state required language proficiency assessments of PA Cyber students is required
  • Score, document, and disseminate student language proficiency assessments and documentation to families and appropriate staff
  • Communicate with potential and identified English language learners and their families using multiple modes of communication
  • Coordinate and execute required ESL screener assessment to all newly enrolling students who do not identify English as their primary language within the state's required timeframe
  • Maintain accurate assessment records of all ESL exempt, enrolled, and exited students to be used in PDE PIMS and LEP submissions
  • Maintain an accurate PHLOTE (Primary Home Language Other Than English) file required by PDE
  • Collaborate with Academic Advisors to properly schedule newly enrolling ELLs in appropriate courses
  • Collaborate with ESL department staff to ensure a smooth transition of ESL services for each enrolling ELL
  • Function as the primary point of contact for all questions related to the testing of our English language learners
  • Provide staff development and trainings as necessary
  • Field emails, phone calls and regular communication from Admissions, Academic Advisors, teachers and other PA Cyber staff
  • Attend all required trainings, meetings, in-service days, and professional development days
  • Perform any additional duties as deemed necessary by ESL Program Coordinator, Director of Elementary Instruction, and/or DCAO

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
