JOB TITLE: Academic Technology Specialist

REPORTS TO: LMS Administrator

JOB GOAL:
The Academic Technology Specialist provides guidance, support, and training for PA Cyber academic technology systems, including the Learning Management System (LMS), live instructional platform, and file sharing system, to teachers, staff, and students. The Academic Technology Specialist is responsible for the creation and ongoing maintenance of all training documents and resources for the necessary academic technology systems. In addition, the Academic Technology Specialist is responsible for conducting new teacher and staff trainings, along with managing staff and teacher questions on a daily basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in related field
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of hardware and associated peripherals installation, troubleshooting, and repair procedures
  • Knowledge of software configurations and problem solving methods needed to diagnose and resolve web technology problems.
  • Child Abuse Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clearance

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the academic technology systems utilized within the academic department, including the Learning Management System (LMS), live instructional platform, and file sharing system.
  • Provide training, support, and resources to staff and students on the Learning Management System (LMS), live instructional platform, and file sharing system.
  • Coordinate, create, and deliver trainings to new and current teachers and staff on the academic technology systems.
  • Assist in the management of all training resources and documentation in relation to the academic technology systems.
  • Create and manage resources to address system updates and fixes.
  • Assist with testing and implementation of all new software releases and upgrades.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the modes of instruction utilized at PA Cyber and how those instructional modes are delivered within the LMS and live instructional platform.
  • Assist with new school year set-up within the LMS and live instructional platform as requested.
  • Utilize PA Cyber’s ticket tracking system to document incidents, questions, and requests from teachers and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all system data and sensitive situations.
  • Assist with the set-up of supplemental courses, groups, and sessions within the academic technology systems.
  • Work collaboratively with the technology department and SIS Administrator to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the curriculum team on course set-up and settings.
  • Communicate with the LMS vendor(s) as requested and needed to troubleshoot issues.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in response to questions and requests from teachers and staff.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with administration and school leadership when needed.
  • Participate in meetings with departments as requested.
  • Work closely with the LMS Administrator on the needs of the department.
  • Manage Projects as deemed necessary by DCAO or LMS Administrator
  • Perform any additional duties as deemed necessary by DCAO or LMS Administrator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
