Congratulations to Ian Docherty, an Assistant Principal for grades 9-12 at PA Cyber, for being named 2023 Administrator of the Year by The Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils (PASC) in recognition of his commitment to student-centered activities and engagement. The PASC reviewed applications from public, private, and charter schools statewide before selecting Mr. Docherty in early 2024. PASC presented a plaque to him this past weekend at the PASC State Leadership Convention, held at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland.

“I was very honored and thankful to our students in the council for nominating me and to the PASC voters for selecting me,” he said.

Abigail Hagopian, former President of PA Cyber’s Student Council, nominated Mr. Docherty for the award. “He is easily one of our Student Council’s, and our students', greatest advocates,” she said. “We can always rely on Mr. Docherty to be the first to sign up to participate in our events, and he eagerly advertises all of the work that we do. … He has always shown genuine interest towards not only our aspirations as a Council but also the individual lives of our members.”

Student Council Involvement

Mr. Docherty began attending PA Cyber’s Student Council meetings in 2020 to connect with students and empower them as leaders. “Everyone in our school community, especially students, has the potential for leadership and can positively impact our school's culture,” he said.

Many of the Council’s efforts support the Four Diamonds, a childhood cancer charity. As a former Penn State student, he supported a similar organization called THON, so he immediately knew he wanted to contribute to the Council’s initiatives. He has donned a Santa suit for a Zoom with Santa session, taken a pie to the face for fundraising, and read books aloud to elementary students.

His award comes on the heels of Nicole Davis’s recognition as the 2023 Linda Greb High School Advisor of the Year, highlighting a strong tradition of excellence at our school.

Thank you to Mr. Docherty for all you do for the PA Cyber community!

Mr. Docherty agreed to get a pie to the face if PA Cyber’s Student Council raised more than $5,000 for their talent show.
