Meet Lily and Nora

September 11, 2024

At the Erie kick-off event, we met Lily and Nora. During COVID, their parents were considering homeschooling their daughters, but they decided to give PA Cyber a try. They liked it so much that they’re returning for their fifth year at the public cyber charter school.

“They can spend their time doing more of what they enjoy,” said their mother, Nicole. “There are lots of opportunities that allow the girls to find what they like to do.” Outside of classes, Lily belongs to a Crochet Crazy Club and Nora belongs to the American Sign Language Club. PA Cyber has introduced them to activities like piano and ballet, which inspired them to seek lessons outside of school.

The family attends as many field trips as they can. For a class assignment, Nora wrote a letter asking the school to create a field trip to Laurel Caverns so she could explore her interest in geology. Nora’s teacher shared the letter with Jane Camp, PA Cyber’s supervisor of student activities, who then created the exact field trip.

“These are the things that keep us coming back,” said Nicole. “The same teachers and staff welcome us back year after year, such as Mr. Mike and Miss Shannon at the Erie office, and that creates a welcoming environment.”
